PROJECT MANAGER

We're seeking a project manager with 3+ years of commercial construction experience. In this role, you'll be on the front lines of our firm, helping to grow a construction team while working with some of the region's biggest names in life sciences, healthcare, commercial retail and higher education. You'll also have an opportunity to:

  • Lead the development of a project plan to outline the project’s scope, goals, scheduling, budget, resources, timeline and budgets;
  • Lead the project team by regularly assessing project risks and developing mitigation strategies to minimize their impact;
  • Lead project permitting, ensuring that licenses and regulations are obtained and adhered to throughout the project;
  • Lead the execution of contracts with vendors, suppliers, and subcontractors, ensuring that all parties involved adhere to contractual obligations and deadlines; and,
  • Lead relationship-building with clients by acting as their primary point of contact, providing regular updates on project progress, addressing concerns and ensuring satisfaction. 

 

Qualifications

Our ideal project manager values purpose, teamwork and integrity and is skilled at listening, anticipating and overcommunicating. We also prefer:

  • 3+ years of field construction supervision experience as a project manager or assistant project manager without a degree or a bachelor’s degree in construction management, or a related field, with a strong track record of successful project completions;
  • Proficiency in using construction management software and tools for scheduling and reporting; and,
  • Experience within Birch's four core markets – life sciences, healthcare, commercial retail and higher education.

SUPERINTENDENT

We're seeking a superintendent with 3+ years of commercial construction experience. In this role, you'll be on the front lines of our firm, helping to grow a construction team while working with some of the region's biggest names in life sciences, healthcare, commercial retail and higher education. You'll also have an opportunity to:

  • Lead personnel on our construction site to ensure activities meet our quality and safety standards and comply with building codes and regulations;
  • Lead resource allocation and record keeping of expenditures to ensure the project stays within budget;
  • Lead problem-solving to minimize disruptions and deliver the project on time;
  • Lead communication across the project team to ensure our processes align with the project’s specifications; and,
  • Lead relationship-building with clients by addressing concerns, sending weekly updates and ensuring their satisfaction with the project’s progress and outcome.

Qualifications

Our ideal superintendent values purpose, teamwork and integrity and is skilled at client relations, communication and problem-solving. We also prefer:

  • 3+ years of field construction supervision experience as a superintendent or assistant superintendent without a degree or a bachelor’s degree in construction management, or a related field, with a strong track record of successful project completions;
  • Proficiency in using construction management software and tools for scheduling and reporting; and,

ESTIMATOR

We're seeking an estimator to join our growing preconstruction team. This is a unique opportunity to start a career in construction and work directly with some of the region's biggest names in life sciences, healthcare, commercial retail and higher education.


In this entry-level role, you'll support our clients by delivering a detailed cost estimate for their project so they can make an informed business decision. This means you will also be asked to:

  • participate in site visits and inspections to gather data and assess site conditions;
  • analyze project plans at a DD and CD Level;
  • utilize construction estimating software and tools to complete full quantity take-offs;
  • solicit, track and manage subcontractor coverage;
  • identify cost-saving opportunities and value engineering options;
  • collaborate with trade partners, project managers, superintendents, owners, architects, engineers; and,
  • prepare clear and well-organized cost estimate reports for senior estimators and management.


Qualifications

Our ideal candidate is a young professional who is ready to learn. A bachelor's degree or less than 3 years of commercial construction experience is preferred. Most importantly, to be successful, this role requires someone who is:

  • highly analytical with strong math and problem-solving skills; and,
  • a hard worker who remains calm under pressure and able to adapt to changing project requirements.

PROJECT ENGINEER

We're seeking a project engineer to work closely with our project managers, architects and sub-contractors to ensure that projects are completed correctly, within budget and on schedule. In this role, you'll be on the front lines of our firm, helping to grow a construction team while working with some of the region's biggest names in life sciences, healthcare, commercial retail and higher education. You'll also have an opportunity to: 

  • lead the review of construction plans, specifications and drawings to ensure compliance with project requirements and identify design issues; 
  • lead the preparation and review of contracts and performance and develop proposals, change orders, progress reports and any other project-related documentation; and, 
  • lead the development of a risk mitigation plan to identify cost-saving opportunities and proactively address any issues during the construction process. 


Qualifications 

Our ideal project engineer values purpose, teamwork and integrity and is skilled at client relations, communication and problem-solving. We also prefer: 

  • field construction supervision experience as a project engineer without a degree or a bachelor’s degree in construction management, or a related field, with knowledge of construction codes, regulations, and best practices; 
  • proficiency in using construction management software and tools for scheduling and reporting; and, 
  • experience within Birch's four core markets – life sciences, healthcare, commercial retail and higher education.
